The glory goes to Ghaiyyath but Enable fans have every reason to be pleased

To say a race with the rich heritage and deserved prestige of the Coral-Eclipse does not matter would be wholly wrong but for the connections of Enable it mattered mostly this year because it served as a means to a far greater end.

Based on the evidence of Sandown, we and they are entitled to be no less hopeful of there being the happiest possible ending to an incredible story at Longchamp in October.

John Gosden is not Mystic Meg but he was impressive in forecasting the future when interviewed on ITV just minutes before Enable made her six-year-old reappearance.
