'The big target is 100' - Tony Carroll aims higher as course specialist strikes

Tony Carroll described Iconic Knight as a course specialist after the 12-1 shot recorded a fourth victory at the track in the 7f handicap.

The seven-year-old was following up his course-and-distance victory 27 days earlier, finishing a neck clear of the favourite Redredrobin.

"He enjoys the track and the little drop of rain we had a few days ago has helped. He’s probably a course specialist kind of horse,” said Carroll.

"This track at Chepstow isn’t for everyone, but he enjoys his time around here.”

Carroll recorded 80 winners on the Flat in 2020 and the trainer is on course to break that figure, Iconic Knight being his 60th winner on the Flat this year, but he has set his sights on reaching an even bigger landmark.

"We’re tipping away," he said. "We want to obviously get as many winners as we can, but I’d say the big target is getting to 100 winners in the calendar year."

"I think it’s doable because we have a good team," he added.

David O'Meara had extra reason to celebrate at York as less than an hour before Blue For You’s win in the Clipper Logistics Handicap, Alpha Cru won the mile fillies’ handicap under Hollie Doyle.

It was the first leg of a double for Doyle as she also steered Secret Handsheikh to victory in the 5f handicap.

Drought over

Clashaniska ended a run of 22 starts without success when running out the 10-1 winner of the 6f handicap.

Owned and trained by Adrian Wintle, the six-year-old finished a length clear of favourite Hagia Sophia.
