The big drift: Mister's 10-1 starting price music to his backers' ears

Despite winning all three of the races he has contested on the course this year and recorded victories off higher marks in the past, few punters seemed to think Mister Music would complete the four-timer in the competitive £20,000 handicap over 7f.

He opened at 6-1, touching 14-1 at one point, before being shortened into 10-1 at the off. It proved a false clue as the nine-year-old is in the form of his life.

Admittedly he looked to be struggling in the first two furlongs but his regular rider, apprentice Aled Beech, knows him well and, from being tailed off in the early stages, he shot past the whole field and ran on strongly to win by a neck from Hammer Gun.
