Ted Walsh's patience bears fruit as Kildorrery earns a rare victory at Cork
Monday: Cork
Ted Walsh would not have missed many Irish Grand National days at Fairyhouse in his life, but his Easter Monday trip to Cork with the often frustrating Kildorrery proved a more than worthwhile one.
The nine-year old broke a losing sequence of 27 races, stretching back to October 2018, when landing the 2m handicap chase under Shane O'Callaghan.
Kildorrery did not have to come from as far off the pace in a steadily run race, and once the strong-travelling Nelly's Money crashed out at the second last, he was able to take full advantage.
"He was due one of those," Walsh commented. "The race fell asunder for him, there were only six runners and he could take his time. He's not an easy horse to win with and he's not an easy ride. His mother was a bit daft and I sent her to Arakan, who's a bit daft. And when you've a daft mother and a daft father you get a daft child."
He added: "That's nearly the first time he's gone anywhere that hasn't been half an hour from home. He's a dreadful traveller in the box and we nearly turned around and came home a couple of times coming down today."
Highway Of Love
There was no joy for Ciaran Murphy in the Irish National with Enjoy D'Allen, but the stable did strike in the feature hunter chase. Timmy Love was seen to very good effect on Down The Highway as he got up late to see off favourite Lord Schnitzel.
The rider is the grandson of Murphy's training partner and former holder of the licence Dot Love, who revealed that she had ridden work on the horse the previous morning.
She said: "Ciaran was riding out Enjoy D'Allen and I asked if I could ride out this fellow with him, so I knew he was in great form."
