James Tate’s decision to run Invincible Army seven days after disappointing in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot was emphatically justified as his star sprinter delivered an authoritative display to land the Betfair-sponsored Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle.

The Saeed Manana-owned four-year-old made all to defeat Laugh A Minute by two and a quarter lengths under PJ McDonald and take his record to two wins from two on the all-weather.

McDonald said: “I have to give James a lot of credit because it would have been very easy to wrap this horse up, back off him and start looking for problems that weren't there.
