Talented Zargun strikes in feature Dash to initiate double for Scott Dixon
Scott Dixon resurrected the form of the "very talented" Zargun in fine style after he cruised to victory in the feature Catterick Dash and headlined a double for the trainer on the card.
The six-year-old, who had finished in the frame at Group level in his native Germany, struck at the tenth attempt for the trainer in the track's big Flat race of the year when winning by one and a quarter lengths.
Dixon said: "We've always thought quite a lot of him since we bought him and I didn't think I had him 100 per cent. My only reservation was I didn't know whether the track would suit, he's at his best when he's running in a straight line on a flat track.
"Catterick has a dog-leg turn and is a little bit undulating which tempered enthusiasm, but he was the best horse in the race on pure ability."
Dixon and jockey Kieran O'Neill completed a double when the frustrating Dark Shot gamely won the 5f handicap, following up from his previous success at Nottingham just three days ago.
The trainer added: "If you run both at home Dark Shot wins every time. He's a hard horse to win with and it’s remarkable we've managed to win two on the bounce – he's the world’s best bridesmaid."
Juvenile judge
Adrian Keatley continued his fine record with two-year-olds this season when Octophobia landed a surprise win in the 7f novice.
The 33-1 shot's success took the Yorkshire-based trainer to eight victories this year, with half of them coming with juveniles.
