Syd Hosie gears up for joint-training operation after Coal Stock delivers
Rookie trainer Syd Hosie revealed an ambitious link-up with Newmarket trainer Gay Kelleway after landing his fourth career success with Coal Stock.
Hosie began training this year from his base at Sherborne in Dorset and is soon hoping to run a joint operation with Kelleway, his friend of many years.
"I've got around 15-20 horses of my own now and it's going to be even better when I get my full licence and work with Gay," Hosie said.
"We are just finalising details with the BHA but I'm hoping it won't be too long now before it is all up and running.
"Gay is quite happy to come down to Dorset and run the operation from here. She's never trained horses for me and I think that's why we are still mates."
Coal Stock survived an error at the second last when his rider Harry Kimber lost an iron before going on to win by seven and a half lengths in the 2m5f handicap chase. He might bid for a quick double at Worcester on Tuesday.
Winning return
Litterale Ci made a successful return to the track in the 2m5½f handicap hurdle after failing to get in foal when covered by Crystal Ocean earlier in the year.
The nine-year-old won the race in 2018 and was second 12 months ago, and scored here under regular partner Aine O’Connor, with the Irish conditional having ridden the mare to five of her seven victories over jumps.
Champagne celebrations
Fergal O'Brien notched a double with Pop The Champagne and Mortlach to hit 50 winners for the season and he already has high hopes of beating last season's career-best tally of 128.
