Swingalong cut to 20-1 (from 66-1) for Lowther after Ripon romp
Monday: Ripon
Karl Burke added another string to his Lowther bow as Swingalong bolted up in the opening 6f novice contest for fillies.
Fourth to Molecomb winner Trillium on her second start, the daughter of Showcasing benefited from a change of tactics to make all the running for a six-length success.
"She's done it really well there, she's come on from her first two runs," said Burke. "Newbury I was probably at fault, as I told William Buick the wrong instructions and to take a lead on her – in hindsight that wasn't the right thing to do.
"We wouldn't have beaten the Molecomb winner that day but we would have given her a race. We knew there was more to come from her – she's a big, long-striding filly and has always shown plenty of ability. She'll probably get further."
Burke also trains the exciting Dramatised, the 2-1 favourite for the Lowther at York next month, and Swingalong was cut to 20-1 by William Hill (from 66).
"We'll see how she comes out of the race but the Lowther is certainly the favoured option. We'll try and get some black type for her now, those fillies-only races are few and far between."
Winning run
Jockey Harrison Shaw won three races on the spin at Doncaster on Saturday and continued that fine run of form on the Ben Haslam-trained Lord Caprio, who sprang a 16-1 surprise in the 1m6f handicap.
Double delight
The feature contest went the way of the Kevin Ryan-trained Aleezdancer, ridden by Kevin Stott, and the pair completed a double when Spiritofthenorth justified 11-8 favouritism in the final race.
