Sweet for punters as Selection lands the spoils for De Sousa
Sweet Selection was a popular selection in the Betfred Cesarewitch and she rewarded her many backers in fine style, underlining that she had indeed been very well in at the weights.
Trainer Hughie Morrison has not long worked out that he was running the winner over a mile short of her optimum but had the right man on board in Silvestre de Sousa who was winning the £250,000 race for the second time on the 7-1 chance after guiding 66-1 chance Scatter Dice home in 2013.
The winner, who was 17lb well in, avoided some early drama when Seismos clipped heels and unseated Marc Monaghan towards the rear. The winner was always in the vanguard throughout the marathon before powering clear from the Bushes to account for First Mohican by three lengths with Sea Of Heaven and The Cashel Man taking third and fourth.
