The Gurkha gained his revenge on Galileo Gold to land yesterday’s feature Qatar Sussex Stakes, improving the level of his form by the equivalent of one length with a Racing Post Rating of 124+.

There was more depth to this Sussex Stakes than the last two renewals, but the market still only wanted to know the The Gurkha and Galileo Gold who, with doubts over Awtaad on the fast ground, held a sizeable advantage over the rest of the field.

With Ribchester improving with a fast-finishing third and the first three pulling three and a half lengths ahead of Toormore, who arrived with something to prove, the form looks of the level that might have been anticipated pre-­race.
