Jim Crowley has been in red-hot form since the resumption of racing and the jockey struck again as Reshoun landed the Marsh Cup at Newbury.

The Marwan Koukash-owned six-year-old, who was wearing a visor for the first time, had failed to make much of an impression on his two runs this season but it was a different story this time and he stormed to the line to deny long-time leader Rajinsky.

Crowley said: "There was a lovely pace and we got into a nice position. I've ridden Reshoun a few times and thought the trip and change of head gear would be a help.

"It's a long straight and you're there to be shot at, but he really stuck his neck out today. He seems in great order and is a happy little horse at the moment."

Frankie Dettori factor pays dividends as Global Giant wins Steventon

It is always worth taking note when Frankie Dettori heads to a racecourse for one ride, and that method paid dividends as Global Giant won the Listed Steventon Stakes at Newbury.

The five-year-old finished fourth at Sandown last time but ran into all sorts of traffic, and although his path to success here was by no means an easy one he asserted himself inside the final furlong to score from Extra Elusive.

Global Giant is owned by Isa Salman Al Khalifa and is being aimed at a race in Bahrain in November, and Dettori believes there could be plenty more success before that date.

The jockey said: "He's being leaned towards winning a big race in Bahrain so this season has been all about working backwards from there, but I think he's definitely got a Group race in him."

Of this victory, Dettori added: "It was a funny old race, we went stop-start. He was very brave and took every gap, and we got the job done."

Royal effort sees Queen Jo Jo land Summer Fillies' Stakes

Queen Jo Jo produced a fantastic effort late on to land the Group 3 Summer Fillies' Stakes at York for Kevin Ryan.

The trainer had already enjoyed a big-race winner over six furlongs this season with Hello Youmzain in the Diamond Jubilee, and could have another hot sprinting prospect on his hands in Queen Jo Jo.

The four-year-old finished second to Liberty Beach at Haydock last month but went one better this time as the 25-1 shot denied Breathtaking Look under Sam James.

Assistant trainer Adam Ryan said: "She had a great comeback run at Haydock and then for whatever reason she didn't quite fire in lreland.

"She was fit and well coming here and Sam gets on well with her. He didn't want to gun her early doors, he was worried about getting too far back but she's really picked up. She's got a great attitude."

Haggas's good weekend at York continues with Surf Dancer

Surf Dancer won the Listed King Charles II Stakes to continue a good weekend on the Knavesmire for William Haggas.

The trainer enjoyed his third success in the John Smith's Cup on Saturday with Sinjaari and built on that here as Surf Dancer surged home to strike by two and three-quarters lengths ahead of Boccaccio.

"It's been a good couple of days," said Haggas's wife Maureen. "Surf Dancer was really unlucky first time out at Sandown and deserved a nice win. He enjoyed the bit of cut in the ground here, he looked happy on it.

"He was high enough in the handicap and he's only going to go one way now so I suppose we'll have to look at Group races. We've got to keep going forwards and he's only a little guy so carrying a lot of weight is not great for him. It's been a good couple of days!"

The 40-1 outsider Lincoln Bright got up to take third for Jane Chapple-Hyam.

Haggas also had Roberto Escobarr score in the 1m2½f novice earlier in the card to secure a double for himself and Ryan Moore, who was on board for both successes.
