Beyond Conceit confounded the so-called 'bounce factor' with a game victory that secured a place in Nicky Henderson's Cheltenham Festival team for the ex-Flat stayer.
He won a thrilling finish to the opening 2m3½f novice hurdle, with three horses coming ten lengths clear of the rest in a head-bobber of a finish.
A neck and a nose separated Beyond Conceit, the Paul Nicholls-trained Topofthegame and De Dollar Man of Evan Williams.
