Super Sam Ewing to the rescue for punters at Dundalk with double for the Smiths

An apprentice on a roll is borderline unstoppable, as young Sam Ewing proved in the driving rain on Wednesday when booting home a double.

Irish Poseidon kick-started what was a memorable day for the teenager, and the Smith family, with brothers Matthew and Kevin supplying a winner apiece for the rider.

Matthew Smith, of One Cool Poet fame, looks as though he will have lots of fun with Irish Poseidon on the all-weather this winter. The German recruit almost made an immediate impact for the stable at the track last week when sent off the 9-4 favourite under Ewing, but dwelt at the start and went down narrowly by a neck in third.
