Stuart Coltherd celebrates career-best tally after Ard Chros strikes again
Monday: Carlisle
Ard Chros recorded back-to-back wins over fences in the 2m handicap chase, bringing up a career-best tally in the process for trainer Stuart Coltherd.
The ten-year old comfortably pulled 19 lengths clear of nearest rival Relkadam under a front-running ride from the trainer's son Sam.
The Selkirk trainer said: “We found it a bit difficult earlier on in the season, the key I think is soft or heavy ground. He’s usually spot on at his fences, and he’s done that well again today.
“I hope the handicapper doesn’t look at us too much!” he added, referring to the fact only three of the five runners finished.
This was win number 19 for the season for Coltherd, but he is not stopping there and plans to add to his figure, saying: “Ard Chros likes Carlisle as a track, and the Go North Qualifier Series, so the plan is to come back here.”
Double delight
Nicky Richards recorded a quickfire 42-1 double in the opening two races on the card.
The opening 2m3½f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle was won in determined fashion by Better Getalong, with 10lb claimer Conor Rabbitt leading at the last and driving his mount clear on the run-in to score by three lengths.
Sean Quinlan brought up the double for the Cumbria trainer on Houston Texas in the 3m2f novice limited handicap chase. The eight-year-old jumped soundly on the whole but for a blunder two out, which forced him to fend off the strong-challenging Mount Melleray.
