Storm Melody takes it by a pixel after ten-minute deliberation

The BHA’s senior racecourse judge Nick Bostock kept everyone waiting for ten minutes as he deliberated over a three-way photo-finish for division one of the 7f handicap before finally calling Storm Melody a narrow winner from Ventriloquist and Your Choice in third.

The actual distance between the first and second was a single pixel in favour of the fast-finishing Storm Melody under Charlie Bishop in the colours of the Shaw Racing Partnership.

“The longer it went on I thought it was going to be a dead-heat,” admitted winning owner Martin Herbert, who along with wife Claire were the only ones left in a deserted winner’s enclosure when the result was finally called.
