How do you get young people interested in racing? Tempting them into ownership and having their first runner win at 50-1 isn't a bad way to start.

But don't expect them to react with the deadpan sangfroid of a Sheikh Mohammed or a JP McManus.

Jack Burton, 19, became a jack in the box, shouting loudly enough to be heard back home in Tadcaster, as Staxton made an unexpected winning debut in the novice event.
