Spring Steel gamble landed but BHA to hold inquiry

Despite boasting recent form figures of PPPPP, Spring Steel was backed into 5-1 (from 14 in the morning ) for the 2m½f handicap chase and duly landed the gamble in style.

Winning trainer Alexandra Dunn was quizzed by the stewards about the seven-year-old’s turnaround in form before forwarding her comments to the BHA so the horse’s previous runs could be reviewed.

Stipendiary steward Chris Rutter said: “We interviewed Alexandra Dunn about the improved performance and she stated Spring Steel had benefited from a wind operation since his last run and may have been suited by a change to front-running and the ground which was good to firm, good in places.”
