Even trainer Jamie Snowden doubted whether Our Three Sons had shaded out Free Stone Hill for the 2m handicap hurdle after the pair flashed past the post in unison.

For once, the usually eagle-eyed exchange punters on Betfair were wide of the mark as they made Free Stone Hill 1-8 in the photo and Our Three Sons a 5-1 chance, just seconds before judge Nick Bostock called Our Three Sons a nose victor, accompanied by some surprised ‘oohs’ from the big crowd.

A relieved Snowden joked: “Never in doubt, was it?"
