Punters who snaffled up the early-morning price of 16-1 about Red River in the 2m5½f novice hurdle were all smiles after Kim Bailey’s charge proceeded to hack up at 7-1.

After travelling in silky smooth style, the four-year-old was unleashed by David Bass to hit the front going to the penultimate hurdle, and the pair quickly put daylight between themselves and Coup De Pinceau for a 13-length call.

Bailey said: "He's a very nice horse and we're hopeful of a big future as he's still a youngster compared to some of his rivals. He had been working well at home in recent weeks and we came here as confident as you can be of a good run.”
