Beyond The Clouds looked likely to be the class act on show and he did not disappoint, taking his record under rules to four wins from five runs courtesy of an eight-length romp in the 1m7½f novice hurdle.

With the 132-rated Golden Jeffrey, faced with the impossible task of giving 7lb to the winner, well held in second, it was a noteworthy performance and one Paddy Power responded to by offering a first show of 66-1 for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.

Racing in the instantly recognisable silks of the late Guy Reed, Beyond The Clouds looks set to rise in class over hurdles next, although trainer Kevin Ryan has one eye on the Flat next season.
