Sizing John runs up to his best but needs to improve to retain Gold Cup crown

Sizing John (RPR 174) ran right up to his Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning best on his return to action at Punchestown on Sunday.

The seven-year-old won the John Durkan Memorial Chase by seven lengths from Djakadam, who matched the RPR of 167 he achieved when winning the corresponding race last year.

The winner looked to have everything covered at every stage of the race and this success took his record for 2017 to an impressive five from five.
