'She's perfect - I'd ride her if I could' - trainer's delight at yard favourite
Sunday: Yarmouth
Trainer Christine Dunnett hailed Flower Of Thunder as "the perfect horse" after she dominated the field in the 1m2f apprentice handicap.
The five-year-old, who is also part-owned by Dunnett, was up with the pace throughout under Isobel Francis before pulling away from the favourite Mc'Ted to win by four and a quarter lengths.
Dunnett said: "She's been my favourite ever since we bought her. She's just such a lovely, genuine horse.
"She's the perfect horse, let alone the perfect racehorse. She's one of them that I would drive to the races, lead her up, tack her up, do everything on my own. I'd ride her if I could!
"I think we were under the impression that she wanted it [the ground] like a road; she won at Leicester when it was very firm. This good ground today is lovely ground and she seemed very happy on it."
Dunnett had been disappointed by a few of her runners lately and thought there may be a problem in the yard, but Flower Of Thunder showed her that was not the case.
"I've been disappointed with a few horses," she added. "I thought if she ran a poor race I would have her scoped to see if we've got any issues in the yard. Now she's performed like that I don't think I need to worry about that too much."
Double for Davies
Harry Davies's battle to be crowned champion apprentice over Benoit de la Sayette continues to be a neck-and-neck affair, and Davies helped himself to a double here.
The Chris Dwyer-trained Cancan In The Rain got off the mark at the third attempt in the 7f novice before Davies guided Priscilla's Wish to a third successive course-and-distance win in the 7f handicap.
