'She's been a bit unlucky' - Ange De L'Amour comes good for Brisland
Friday: Nottingham
Trainer Robyn Brisland’s commitment to increasing the strength of his juvenile squad is beginning to reap rewards and he is hopeful more success is on the way after Ange De L’Amour broke her maiden tag.
The 11-4 favourite moved to the front inside the final furlong in the hands of Sam James to score by three-quarters of a length in the 6f fillies' maiden.
"She’s deserved that as she's been a bit unlucky and we’ll be looking for some better class races for her now," said Brisland.
"I've been aiming to be more of a two-year-old trainer and we bought 36 yearlings last year. All of them to have run so far have done well and I've still got two or three more to run that should do well."
Stroll in the park
The biggest prize of the day was claimed by Alpine Stroll, who stayed on strongly under Rhys Clutterbuck to defeat seven rivals in the £35,000 Colwick Cup.
"The owners are very happy as this was a nice prize," said trainer Ed de Giles. "We've been easier on the horse this year, and he’s been better since being fitted with blinkers."
Sprint double for Midgley
Paul Midgley secured a double on the card after winning both 5f handicaps. Harrogate got the double up and running with Good Luck Fox obliging in the following race.
"It's been a long time coming for Good Luck Fox but he'd dropped to his last winning mark,” said the trainer.
Memorable winner
It was a memorable day for 19-year-old Cole Harris, who registered his first success from only his fourth ride when Masque Of Anarchy won the closing 1m2f handicap for amateur jockeys.
