Glorious Goodwood could be on the agenda for Fox Degree after the King Power-owned filly got off the mark at the fourth time of asking in the feature 5f nursery.

Laura Pearson, riding at the Welsh track for the first time, ensured Ralph Beckett’s winning spree continued after the trainer struck three times at Newmarket's July meeting.

The two-year-old pulled two lengths clear of three previous winners and a tilt at a £30,000 nursery over a furlong further at Glorious Goodwood on July 29 could be next according to King Power’s racing manager Alastair Donald.

He said: “We’re very pleased with that, I think it was actually quite a strong nursery. She’s steadily improved with each run – she took a nice step forward today and could be one for the nursery at Goodwood. She likes fast ground and she’s looking to get her act together now.”

Probert pounces

Beckett was denied a double when Thanks Monica under Rossa Ryan failed to reel in Ancient Capital, who was the beneficiary of a superb front-running ride by David Probert in the 1m4f handicap.

Probert helped the three-year-old make a winning stable debut for Robert Stephens and completed a double, having also guided the Sir Mark Todd-trained Time Step to the perfect possible start in the opening 6f maiden.

Time Step, who is also owned by Todd, overturned the odds-on favourite Conflict to make a winning debut, and 20-1 shot Mottisfont was another successful newcomer on the card, striking in the 7½f maiden for George Rooke and Hughie Morrison.
