After winning her last four starts of last season, Kastasa went into winter quarters as one of the more promising stayers in training. It took until now for the daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar to be seen out again, but her reputation remained intact as she overcame some ring-rustiness to run out a cosy winner of the Listed Vintage Tipple Stakes.

Ridden by Oisin Orr, she was caught a little flat-footed when the slow early pace began to increase before the straight, but the manner in which she eventually picked up could not be matched by her opponents.

She had three-quarters of a length to spare over Nan Yehi at the line, but the performance had authority, and the way she was blowing in the winner's enclosure gave some idea of how much improvement there could be in her.
