Seventh Heaven lands Irish Classic style

Aidan O'Brien landed a fifth Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh yesterday – but not with the filly he or most observers would have expected him to win it with.

While Ribblesdale heroine Even Song started odds-on to follow up her Royal Ascot success, it was stablemate and 14-1 chance Seventh Heaven who streaked clear to provide Ballydoyle with their latest winner, and jockey Seamie Heffernan with a first in the fillies' Classic.

It was a convincing success, the margin being two and three-quarter lengths over Architecture, whose fellow British raider Harlequeen was third and Even Song only seventh of the 11 runners.
