Seeking Gold adds to Tom Clover's abundance of juvenile riches
Wednesday: Yarmouth
Trainer Tom Clover has unearthed another potential high-class performer in Seeking Gold, who underlined his promise in the 7f novice stakes.
The 11-10 favourite eased to the front at the furlong pole under Jack Mitchell and from that point was always in control, coming home two lengths clear of the Godolphin runner Modern Dancer.
Clover has already enjoyed Listed race success this season with Rogue Millennium and has another promising juvenile on his hands in Al Karrar, who was runner-up in the Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
“I'm not sure Seeking Gold is my best one yet, but he's exciting and certainly one to look forward to,” he said.
“The form of his Newbury debut has worked out well and he has been working well so we were quite hopeful but I expected him to win a little more easily. He still seemed a little green when he hit the front.
“He looks like he will step up to a mile – his pedigree suggests it will suit him – but I'm not sure where he goes next.”
One possible target is the Group Two Champagne Stakes over seven furlongs at Doncaster on September 10. “I entered him for that as there is often quite a small field but there are Group 3 races in France which are also a possibility,” Clover added.
Mitchell had a strong book of rides and completed a double when G'Daay landed the Class 5 7f handicap.
Moore on the mark
It’s always worth taking note when Ryan Moore pays a rare visit to the track and his supporters profited when Bellstreet Bridie, one of two rides for the ex-champion, made all in the 1m2f maiden.
The Michael Bell-trained 15-8 favourite scored comfortably by four lengths from Made Of Gold.
