Jump racing felt like it was putting away the summer shorts and pulling on the tweed as big names entered the winner's enclosure at Warwick, kicking off with Barry Geraghty and followed later by the impressive Sceau Royal.

Sceau Royal, sixth in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham after winning the Elite at Wincanton, was given a searching first examination over fences by Ballyhill, who took the field of five along at a strong pace in the 2m novice chase.

Winning trainer Alan King said: "That was very pleasing as he's only schooled twice over fences. He's got plenty of scope for a little horse – he was a long way off one and got over fine.
