Saxon Warrior has stamp of Derby winner after strong finish in fast-run race

A fabulous performance from Racing Post Trophy winner Saxon Warrior, who stood out in the preliminaries after developing really well over the winter and looked every inch the likely Derby winner when much the strongest at the end of a fast-run mile.

Some questioned beforehand whether Saxon Warrior would have the speed to win a Guineas, having outstayed Roaring Lion at Doncaster last October.

However, in a race in which they initially split into three groups, he travelled really well and found an impressive change of speed to hit the front with over a furlong still to go and then galloped through the line in a manner that can leave little doubt he will be even more effective over middle distances – and this despite Donnacha O'Brien feeling he probably got there too soon.
