If steely resolve wins jockeys’ championships then Sam Twiston-Davies could be well on the way to his first title as he vowed to give it his best shot after victory aboard Arthur McBride in the 2m7½f handicap hurdle.

The jockey who leads current title holder Richard Johnson by five successes (38-33) declared: “If I am where I am now in September, make no mistake, I'll be going for it in some style, I hope.

“At this point 12 months ago I was sitting at home twiddling my thumbs as nobody wanted to give me a ride, but this time around it’s all change as the boss Paul Nicholls has quite a few horses in, my father Nigel is also busier than normal and Richard Newland has been good to me
