Without a win in three starts last season, Footpad showed signs that he was returning to something like his brilliant best when accounting for four rivals at Thurles under Daryl Jacob.

He didn't come off the bridle throughout, sauntered clear under tender handling and jumped his fences like a seasoned professional. It was exceptional viewing and a nice reminder that Footpad retains a lot of his ability after being pulled up on his previous outing at the Cheltenham Festival after bleeding from the nose.
