Just like that, the next generation of high-class talent at Colin Tizzard's stable has emerged in two glorious days at Aintree.

Twenty-four hours after Lostintranslation marked himself out as an exciting contender for next season's top staying prizes, Reserve Tank heralded his arrival on the Grade 1 scene when taking a big step forward to cause a 20-1 upset.

Even before the 2m4f Betway Mersey Novices' Hurdle, Tizzard was planning for fences, and he will do so with extra relish after the Robbie Power-ridden five-year-old powered to success over Brewin'upastorm.

"It looks like he's not had a race, he's hardly blowing," said Tizzard. "He had ulcers and was terrible in his coat at Christmas and was going nowhere. However, on his last three runs he's improved leaps and bounds each time. He's a strong stayer and I would think we'll be going chasing next season."

The Dorset trainer has dominated the staying chase division in recent seasons with star trio Cue Card, Native River and Thistlecrack, and appears to have safeguarded for the future with Reserve Tank and Lostintranslation unearthed from the same source.

"Peter and Ross Doyle found him and Lostintranslation from point-to-point yards and sent them over," said Tizzard. "Some of the lads involved in Lostintranslation own this one and I'll have a job stopping them from taking him to Punchestown as they go over for the week."

Power, who combined with Tizzard to win this race two years ago with Finian's Oscar, maintained his excellent Aintree record with another enterprising ride to back up victories earlier in the week on Supasundae and Lostintranslation.

"They've done a fantastic job with this horse and he's another who's going to strengthen up," said the jockey. "I'd imagine novice chasing next season is the way to go with him. I was very confident turning in, a gap opened up and he quickened up really well."

Trainer Olly Murphy drew encouragement from another solid effort in defeat by Brewin'upastorm, who had been fourth in the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

He said: "He ran a cracker. We were second best on the day and no excuses. He's going to be a gorgeous horse to go jumping fences with next year."

Angels Breath was sent off 11-4 favourite but again failed to settle early on and dead-heated for third with One For Rosie.

"I should think he'll be novice chasing next year and he won't run again this season," said trainer Nicky Henderson. "We might put a hood on him and he's got to learn to relax a bit more."
