Rossa Ryan rode his second winner of the year for Alan King when partnering Theonlywayiswessex to victory and the young rider was full of praise for the trainer as he outlined his own ambitious plans for 2023.

Ryan kept things simple in the 1m4f handicap, riding his mount close to the pace before pouncing at the two-furlong pole to win with something to spare.

"Alan's a fantastic trainer," said Ryan. "He shows it over jumps and has done the same on the Flat, year in and year out.

"He's shown the big boys what he can do with Trueshan and he's definitely a trainer to have on side."

A Group 1 victory has eluded Ryan so far but the 21-year-old is hopeful to break through this year, while he also wants to pass a century of winners for the third time.

"I'd love to break my Group 1 duck this year," he added. "We'll just have to take it as it comes. Hopefully we can top last year, I think the aim for both me and my agent is to get as close to 150 as possible.

"We'll try and get to the 100 again and see from there – hopefully I'll be injury free and see how I get on."

Great day for Boughey

Trainer George Boughey saddled his first winner in the United Arab Emirates when Al Dasim won the Al Wasl Stakes and Pocket The Packet provided him with a cross-continent double in the 7f handicap.

Danny Muscutt passed the entire field in the straight to win snugly and completed a double of his own when D Day Odette won the concluding race.
