When a horse backed off the boards wins the big race on a glorious – and well-attended – bank holiday Monday it is safe to assume the place is going to be bouncing, and all bar none seemed to be celebrating after the success of the Gary Hanmer-trained Allbarnone.

Going off at 7-1, having been available at 18-1, Allbarnone was delivered late under Ross Chapman, and such was the quality of the ride Chapman earned a new fan in the delighted Hanmer.

"We've been waiting for the better ground and they either love it or loathe it round here, but he's one who definitely likes it," said Hanmer. "It's a special place and he copes with it well.
