Rodriguez celebrates birthday by riding fourth winner from five rides
Apprentice Callum Rodriguez, who is based with trainer Michael Dods and a graduate on the Northern Racing College, had good reason to celebrate his 20th birthday. Not only did he better his total for the two previous years by riding his tenth winner of the year on Capolavoro for trainer Robert Cowell in the 7f claimer, it was also his fourth winner from just five rides in what has been a remarkable five days for him.
Rodriguez said: "It's been a good week and I've had a good run as I also had five winners from nine rides."
His winning run began at Thirsk on Sunday when he won on his only ride, Melabi, for his former boss Richard Ford. He then won on Prince Of Time, also for Ford, at Wolverhampton on Tuesday and in a double-stint on Wednesday partnered Oriental Relation to win the apprentice handicap at Pontefract on his only ride at that meeting having finished second at Wolverhampton earlier in the day.
