Rock Road continues great summer with another valuable pot for red-hot Mullins
Saturday: Killarney
Willie Mullins stole the show on the final card of Killarney's three-day August festival with a four-timer.
It was capped off by a gutsy win in the 2m4f Grade B handicap chase with red-hot handicapper Rock Road.
Fresh from a ready Galway festival success over hurdles, having landed the Mayo National two starts earlier, the mount of Brian Hayes continued his superb summer with a smart display as 11-4 favourite to deny Exit Poll in the €45,000 prize.
After the Bowes Lodge Stables Partnership-owned performer made it six winners for the Mullins camp at the Killarney festival, Hayes said: "That's my third win on him, having won on him before when trained by Michael Bowe.
"Michael recommended him to me when he was finishing up with the horse and then I recommended him to Patrick Mullins, who found an owner for him at Willie's. He's been brilliant for the yard.
"It's great for the Bowes for this horse to get more black type for his dam Sweet Kiln, keeping her progeny going well."
Earlier on the card, the Turner family's useful mare Finest Evermore showed plenty of toughness to defy top weight in the 2m6½ handicap hurdle under a well-judged ride from Danny Mullins.
There was double delight for the winning rider as he also partnered the champion trainer's Authorized Art to a clearcut success in the 2m4f novice chase for owner Nick Peacock.
Bryan Cooper was on the Closutton team's opening winner on the card Uncle Phil, who just did enough to repel some late challengers in the 2m½f maiden hurdle.
Whosgotyanow on song for Tynan
Music was in the air at the Kerry venue as owner Dr Ronan Tynan broke into full voice to welcome back his winner Whosgotyanow in the 2m1f beginners' chase.
Accompanied by Anthony Kearns, who features with the winning owner as part of The Irish Tenors musical group, the pair treated racegoers to a rendition of Will Ye Go Lassie Go after 7lb claimer Cian Quirke guided the Andrew Slattery-trained mare to victory.
