The world’s only race meeting restricted to female riders carried extra importance last night as any winning jockey automatically qualified for a crack at a £20,000 development award at Haydock on Saturday.

Rachel Richardson was one of those to completed phase one of the potential lucrative Jockey Club Racecourses double when steering A J Cook to victory in the 5f handicap.

With Hayley Turner and Josephine Gordon, who both warmed up for Saturday’s Shergar Cup here, otherwise engaged on Saturday, the leading apprentice will fancy her chances in the new Betfred Ladies’ Trophy Handicap.
