As Limerick hosted its first Grade 1 contest, it seemed appropriate the race was the vehicle for somebody to enjoy a first success at this level, and it proved to be the talented if underrated rider Keith Donoghue and his partner Hardline.

Hardline is proving an ever more likeable individual for Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown House Stud, and was a very game winner, following on from his victory in a Grade 3 at Navan earlier this month.

He jumped well and responded gallantly from the final fence having come to challenge odds-on favourite Getabird under Ruby Walsh at the second-last, with the mistake made by Getabird at the last proving crucial.
