Relief for Brown after Poppy ends 149-day losing run

Malton trainer Alan Brown breathed a sigh of relief after Poppy In The Wind came late under Hollie Doyle to win the 6f handicap by a head as it was his first winner for 149 days.

"We needed that, it seems a long time since my last winner," he said with purpose.

The mare has been a good servant to him as she was making it five wins in a 42-race career which has earned more than £25,000 in prize-money, which is a fair return on the £2,500 she cost as a yearling. Surprisingly, though, it was her first success at the trip.
