Man in form: hotshot Hogan hitting top gear at just the right time
If a trainer could pick a time of year to come into form, the run-up to the Galway festival would be very high on the list. Step forward Cloughjordan trainer Denis Hogan.
The form of his string had already been well advertised over the past few weeks by stable star Tithonus winning the Rockingham and Scurry Handicaps. It showed no sign of slowing here as he landed a double, and he was in the saddle on both horses too.
The 2m4f handicap chase winner Eiri Na Casca got the better of a good scrap from the last with The Gatechecker. Hogan said: "We went hard early but I thought they were going too hard and I was happy enough. On the second circuit, though, they slowed it right up and I started to latch on and jump.
