Realtra rounds off stellar year for Varian stable
Roger Varian rounded off the most successful year of his career so far when Realtra returned from more than a year's absence to claim a Listed prize at Deauville yesterday.
The trainer's final runner of 2016 ran out a decisive winner of the Prix Miss Satamixa on Deauville's all-weather course as she eased across the line a length and a half clear of Caointiorn, despite winning jockey Christophe Soumillon putting up 2lb overweight.
Victory for the filly, who had not run since finishing fifth in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes 452 days earlier, secured free entry to the £150,000 32Red All-Weather Fillies' And Mares' Championship Stakes on Good Friday but the Group 2 Cape Verdi and Balanchine Stakes at the Dubai Carnival could be next on her agenda.
