The Dragon Stakes has been won by subsequent Group 1 performers Havana Grey and The Last Lion in recent years and the crowd at Sandown may just have been treated to another flash of star quality when Liberty Beach put a strong field to the sword in the Listed contest.

The two-year-old was a fast-finishing fourth in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot – beating home everything on her side of the track – and confirmed that promise in abundance under Jason Hart, streaking clear of runner-up Dream Shot by three and a quarter lengths.

The likes of Al Raya, Makyon and Rayong all arrived at Sandown with promising Royal Ascot form behind them but none could cope with the winner, who was sent off a warm 9-4 shot.
