Punters need sedative after Norphin defies all the odds for first win

A 70-rated chaser, 4lb out of the handicap, the 20-1 outsider of four and without a win in 30 previous starts – there was little or nothing going for Norphin in the handicap chase.

Norphin, the drug and not the racehorse, is described as being "for use against severe pain, opioid dependence, peri-operative analgesia and other conditions".

Punters were certainly in need of some of that sedative after the Jeff Mould home-bred took full advantage of the fall of smooth-travelling favourite Le Coeur Net to beat course specialist Spiritofchartwell.
