Pre-race drama works in Richard Kingscote's favour as he rides easy winner
Richard Kingscote rode one of the easiest winners of his career at Wolverhampton on Tuesday but it was not one he was expecting just ten minutes before the race.
His mount, Alphonse Karr, looked to have it all to do against the 1-6 favourite Boomshalaa until that rival blew an easy opportunity on the way to post, unseating Andrea Atzeni and then bolting which led to his withdrawal at the start.
With the field size cut from five to four, Alphonse Karr's price changed from 4-1 to 2-11 in the reformed market and the Tom Ward-trained runner did not break sweat to land the 6f novice stakes.
Kingscote said: "Hopefully Andrea is ok and his horse looked fine but it's just one of those things – it opened things up for us.
"He showed a likeable attitude and did everything right. He had the experience and in a couple of his races he's run a little too free but he had cover and enjoyed himself. He's come good."
Summa scores
The feature 1m½f handicap went to the Keith Dalgleish-trained
Summa Peto, who powered clear in the closing stages to defeat 7-4 favourite Great King.
The three-year-old was building on his stylish maiden success at Ayr last month.
Day of surprises
It proved a tricky day for finding winners with Red Walls striking at 28-1 and Fieldsman going in at 25-1. There were just 32.12 winning units on the Placepot, with dividends of £1,224.10.
