Ian Popham has earned some good luck after some cruel setbacks in his career and he was not complaining after an upturn in his fortunes at Fontwell.

The former Paul Nicholls' conditional came in for the spare ride on Bredon Hill Lad for Sue Gardner due to her daughter Lucy being stood down with dehydration after riding an hour earlier on another warm afternoon.

Popham needed no second invitation on the bold jumping front-runner as he saw off his two rivals who flanked him going as well off the home turn of the 2m1½f Bet365 Handicap Chase.
