Friday: Downpatrick

Nobody really felt like celebrating, but there was an outpouring of public goodwill for the De Bromhead family after Rachael Blackmore won in game fashion on Ingenious Stroke at Downpatrick's final meeting of the year.

Success in the 2m2f beginners' chase was the first winner for the stable since the unspeakable tragedy at Rossbeigh beach 13 days ago.

Blackmore said: "It's great to get but winners don't mean the same now. We're all thinking of Jack."

Donoghue continues his fine week

Not many jump jockeys are in better form at the moment than Keith Donoghue, and he followed up a treble at Sligo on Wednesday with a meaningful success in the 2m2f handicap hurdle on the Pat Griffin-trained Trishknowsbest.

The daughter of Malinas is owned by Donoghue's father Michael and named after his mother Trish, who was on hand to witness this success.

The five-year-old mare held off the persistent challenge of runner-up Darkest Hour after the final flight and kept him at bay by three-quarters of a length.

"It means a little bit more to win on her," said Donoghue. "She showed she could win in a few of her maiden hurdles, she was finishing fifth and sixth but was always running her race."

Good day for Dempsey

Luke Dempsey was the rider in form on the day when he landed a double.

The Bill Durkan-trained Favorite Moon was an impressive winner of the 2m3f maiden hurdle before Krujers Girl won the 2m7½f handicap chase for trainer Tom Coyle.
