Eleven days, three wins, 47 lengths. Those are the numbers that tell Robert Walford more magic can be conjured up out of Our Merlin.
A 14lb penalty could not stop the five-year-old winning the 2m handicap hurdle by an easy 15 lengths under Harry Cobden to add to similar romps at Plumpton and Fontwell. Now better things await.
Explaining the improvement in a horse who had failed to land any of his six races before his winning streak, Walford said: “Last year he just couldn’t go. We’ve changed nothing – he just needed time. It was so easy for him there.
