It is not often Newmarket gets one over on Lambourn at this meeting, but that was the case in the Listed novice hurdle for fillies and mares when Pink Sheets struck for Mick Quinn at the expense of the Nicky Henderson-trained Ahorsewithnoname.

Former professional footballer Quinn celebrated his fifth Listed victory and first since 2008 when the smart sprinter Angus Newz obliged at Chester.

"I'm chuffed to bits. That's my fifth stakes winner and the last was a long time ago," he said. "We're a Flat yard, but the owner Kenny Bruce is a sporting man and wanted a jumper, so I bought – maybe robbed – her from Mick Channon.
