Brian Meehan took the training honours on a baking afternoon, completing a 20-1 double with a stable stalwart and a possible rising star.

Last year's Cambridgeshire winner Spark Plug took the Listed Ambant Gala Stakes in style from Kidmenever having been second to Ayrad in the same race last year, while youngster Petrus improved on his debut fourth at Newbury to beat Barford in the 7f novice stakes.

Faster ground was no doubt a factor in Spark Plug's success, but the first-time assistance of Ryan Moore was clearly no handicap as he came home strongly, a length and three-quarters clear.
