Pertemps Final 'on agenda' for Orbys Legend after bouncing back to form
Sunday: Wincanton
Philip Hobbs could target the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival for Orbys Legend after he landed the qualifier in style.
This was his second attempt at the three-mile trip and he proved his recent Haydock seventh was not a true reflection of his ability over the distance. He kept on strongly to deny Saint Sonnet by three and three-quarter lengths.
Hobbs's last winner of this race, If In Doubt in 2015, went on to finish third in the Pertemps on his next start and a similar route could be followed with Orbys Legend.
"He kept going well. The ground was probably on the quick side last time, there were sharp bends and he never really jumped, but here he jumped beautifully," said Hobbs.
"Cheltenham is certainly on the agenda but I'll speak to connections as to what we're going to do. If we wanted to give him the best chance at Cheltenham, then we wouldn't run again before. It's great to have him qualified."
No iffs . . .
Favori De Sivola got up in the dying stages of the MansionBet-sponsored Lord Stalbridge Gold Cup to beat Ede'iffs Elton. Connections could now look at regional nationals after he landed his fourth win over fences from seven starts.
Double Dingle jingle
Jockey Rex Dingle rode a 155-1 double, first steering the Anthony Honeyball-trained Belle De Manech to a 14-length success on her chasing debut before fending off the challenge of the fast-finishing Foxboro in the 2m4f handicap chase on Jeremy Scott's Native Robin.
